Unfortunately, you can’t assume your cleaner(s) will know what to do when turning over your property (or that they will do it to your standards). Because I manage ten Airbnb listings, I don’t have time to waste miscommunicating anything with my cleaners. When I launch a new listing, I use this Airbnb cleaning checklist template to create a Cleaner’s Manual that leaves room for no questions as to what they need to do.

Why You Need an Airbnb Cleaning Checklist Template
Not just any old cleaning checklist will do when it comes to your Airbnb, and don’t assume that your cleaner will come to the table with their own- or that their cleaning standards will be the same as yours. The truth is, you will need to take the lead in directing your cleaner to clean and stage your property exactly how you want it.
Providing this cleaning checklist to your cleaner upfront will take any guesswork out of the turnover process and it will hold your cleaner accountable to the things you’re asking them to do. Since the template I’m providing you is editable, you’re able to make changes anytime you need to add something new or adjust a cleaning task.
What Your Airbnb Cleaning Checklist Should Include
Your Airbnb cleaning checklist should include:
- the time your cleaner should arrive
- how long it generally takes to clean the property
- how many cleaners it takes
- how to access the property and any codes they need for the door lock
- where supplies and stock items are located
- a cleaning checklist by room
- a staging & stocking checklist by room
- a deep clean checklist for when you need a deep clean (note- not included in template yet)
- any special laundering instructions you have (note- not included in template yet)
It helps to be very specific about each task you are asking your cleaner to do. For example, if you want your floors mopped with a specific product, or if you want your coffee station staged in a specific way, specify that on the checklist and provide photos. This will be extremely helpful if you ever have to have a new backup cleaner come in last minute.
Once you begin working with a cleaner routinely, they will get to know the way you like things, but it’s great to have this cleaning manual in place to continually hold them accountable to the standard. I like to do routine cleaning checks once in a while to make sure my cleaners are doing a good job. If I see something off, I know I need to either address my cleaner if its on the checklist and they missed it, or it might be something new to add to the checklist.
How to Customize to your Editable Airbnb Cleaning Checklist
On this cleaning checklist template, I’ve detailed general cleaning tasks by room of the home for the kitchen, living room, dining room, bathrooms, and bedrooms. You may want to make copies of the pages and add your own tasks for any additional rooms in your home that you have, or exterior projects you have your cleaner/housekeeper do.
For each room of the property, there are 3 sections on the template:
- Cleaning Checklist: This is where the general cleaning tasks are for that room. You will want adjust the wording and tasks to make sense for your property. For example, if your bathroom has a shower and not a tub, you may want to take out the wording about the tub so as not to confuse your cleaner.
- Stage, Stock, Replace & Refill: This is the area you’re really going to customize. Here you want to detail exactly what products and how many your cleaner needs to put out for the guest. List the number of towels, washcloths and bathmats to leave and where; let them know how much coffee to leave out, etc.
- Photo page: There are room for 4 photos on the photo page, but you may want to provide more. I personally like to provide a few photos of the room as a whole, and then up-close photos of any specific staging requests.

Instructions for your Free Airbnb Cleaning Checklist Template:
- To add your own photos, simply click “Uploads,” upload your photo, and drag it to the photo grid where you’d like to place it.
- To edit text, click on the text area that you want to edit, erase the text and type over it. *Tip*: double click a word to highlight and erase or type over it, or triple click to do the same for a whole sentence.
- You can customize the document by changing any of the colors, fonts, etc. by clicking on the element you want to change and choosing from the options along the top toolbar.
- *TIP* If you need to adjust or remove the grouping of tasks that I have on the Kitchen checklist, select that box, right click, and select ungroup to ungroup the elements, and then adjust them from there.
- When you’re ready to share the document with your cleaner, simply click “Share,” “Copy Link,” but before you do this, be sure the settings are set to “Anyone with the link can view”, NOT edit. You do not want cleaners being able to edit your document.
